A Chartered Accountant by profession, Y Prahu was involved with Krishna Gana Sabha right from the start, thanks to his father, Sri R Yagnaraman, from whom he imbibed a love and sense of reverence for the arts. He was inducted as a Committee Member in 2002 and has been instrumental in the preservation and public release of many archival concert performances in aid of the Sabha Building Fund. An expert in managing and nurturing relationships, Prabhu has been primarily responsible for establishing the philosophy of trust-based relationships. A serious and sincere lover of the classical arts, he continues to populate the Sabha with the essence of its founders, and carry forward its legacy.

Born in 1949, Y Prabhu completed his schooling at Sri Ramakrishna Mission Boy‟s High school and thereafter completed his BCom from Vivekananda College, Chennai. He went on to complete his Chartered Accountancy in 1978.

Right from the start, Prabhu was immensely interested in the fine arts and went on to win prizes in music. He also holds the distinction of reciting a full-fledged Harikatha on the life of Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa in the presence of erstwhile Chief Minister of Tamilnadu, Sri Kamaraj.

He was inducted by his father, R Yagnaraman, as a Committee Member in 2002 and went on to become its Joint Secretary in 2006. Shadowing his father, Prabhu was also instrumental in the purchase of the current property of Krishna Gana Sabha.

He has also played a key role in the preservation and public release of many archival concert performances in aid of the Sabha Building Fund. Under the Presidentship of Dr Nalli Kuppuswamy Chetty, Prabhu has played an integral part in the Sabha reaching many of its milestones – acquisition of land for the Sabha’s premises, renovation of the Sabha in 2001 and the construction of Krishna Gana Sabha’s new air-conditioned auditoriums – Dr Nalli Gana Vihar and the mini Kamakoti Gana Mandir.

For his relentless and continuing service to the arts, Y Prabhu was awarded the prestigious Kalaimamani award for his contribution to promoting arts & culture from the Government of Tamilnadu.
