For more than six decades now, Krishna Gana Sabha has been playing host to and presenting the Margazhi Mela, a celebration of music, dance and Namasankeerthanam. Starting on December 13 and culminating on January 3, the subsequent year, this is a celebration of the arts like no other.

The entire premises comes alive with the arts and starting from the morning until 9pm, one can witness a host of presentations and performances by artistes who are experienced and upcoming.

In its thought and curation, the Margazhi Mela, has, true to the ethos of Krishna Gana Sabha, offered opportunities aplenty to diverse art forms, bringing into the city, genres of music and dance, little known to this part of the country. In doing so, the Sabha has consistently cultivated and nurtured an audience that supports the arts, at large.

On the inaugural day of the Margazhi Mela, two artistes, one for music and another for dance, chosen by the Krishna Gana Sabha, are conferred upon the titles of Sangeetha Choodamani and Nrithya Choodamani, respectively. The awards carry a cash prize, a gold medallion, a scroll and a shawl. Over the years a whole host of artistes from across genres have been recipients of this award.

Between December 26 and December 30, every year, the daily programme commences with devotional music sessions and segues into the Natya Kala Conference. The afternoon features performances by talented youngsters, followed by performances of eminent artistes in the context of music.
