A multi-faceted personality, Saashwathi Prabhu, CEO, Krishna Gana Sabha, daughter of Y Prabhu and granddaughter of R Yagnaraman, is also an artiste of repute. A trained classical musician, Saashwathi is also a singer and music composer who has many performances and accolades under her belt.
Following in the footsteps of her grandfather and father, she has served as a Committee Member of the Krishna Gana Sabha for more than a decade and in her current avatar as its CEO, her commitment to raise the bar of this institution in every sense of the word, is commendable.
For several years, Saashwathi has been working behind-the-scenes, and has played a crucial role in infusing a quality of innovation and the experimental to the curation and presentation of ideas, initiatives and festivals of the Sabha. She has also been instrumental in making significant infrastructural changes to the Sabha and indeed making it a state-of-the-art auditorium in the city, and India.
Saashwathi was initiated into music by legendary violin maestro, Sri Lalgudi G Jayaraman and she went on to perform several solo performances starting 2000. With a deep passion to create and compose music since the age of 13, Saashwathi debuted her first original on behalf of PSBB School (in Chennai) for director Bharathbala’s Vande Mataram to mark India’s 50th year of independence. Since then, she has composed many pieces in both the classical and the fusion space, finding a niche for herself in the space of classical-based fusion music.
Music aside, Saashwathi also holds a Master’s degree in Psychology with a specialization in Counselling and Guidance. She has trained extensively under Brinda Jayaraman, Senior Counsellor and worked with her for many years before branching out to find and grow her own clientele. As a Counselling Psychologist, Saashwathi specialises in marital counselling, pre-marital counselling, parenting and behaviour, and cognitive behaviour therapy for individuals with emotional disturbances including anxiety, depression and issues pertaining to self-esteem.
Under her leadership, the Sabha continues to stay true to its vision, but also evolve with changing times, finding its voice and expression across digital platforms and endeavouring to create more spaces and opportunities for the younger generation to share and express their art.
